Arvato Partners with Therismos for Named Patient Supplies
With the new partnership, Arvato Healthcare acts as a one-stop provider that offers its customers integrated storage and distribution solutions as well as Named Patient supplies. Robust interfaces are used to integrate the services of Therismos directly into the IT systems and warehouse management of Arvato. This creates fast and reliable processes as well as maximum transparency. Stocks that are kept available at Therismos for deliveries are included in regular stock reports, and the invoicing is likewise consolidated. The most important rationale for this step is that, for all business processes, customers now have a single, central contact that manages all further processes internally in accordance with the Arvato guideline One Face to the Customer.
Named Patient programmes allow drugs that have not yet been approved to be delivered to selected patients. In the framework of these programmes, drugs that are in the late stages of clinical trials or are already approved in other countries can be requested by physicians for patients identified by name when all other possibilities of treatment have been exhausted.
“Named Patient supplies to individual, previously unknown patients are permitted in Europe only from the UK and only under very stringent conditions,” says Carsten Thiemt, Head of Quality at Arvato Healthcare. “The basic requirement is an expanded license that can only be issued by the responsible UK authority. Furthermore, whenever there is an order, one must carefully ensure prior to shipment that the addressee is, in fact, a physician, a pharmacy, or a hospital – which is one of the biggest barriers to entry for new suppliers because of the great many national formalities involved.” Therismos performs these checks worldwide and also resolves all customs issues on behalf of the customer.
Therismos already has extensive expertise in the field of Named Patient supplies. Its portfolio, which includes the handling of ambient products as well as professional handling of cold-chain products and narcotic substances, makes the Birmingham-based company an ideal partner for Arvato. Moreover, like Arvato, Therismos also offers flexible transportation solutions as required by the customer. Thus, for passive cold-chain shipments in the range of 2 to 8 °C, customers can, if desired, use the same boxes as for shipment from Arvato locations. That makes the processes uniform and eliminates extra validations.
“Our customers can be sure that their product is in the best hands at any time throughout the supply chain and that all quality requirements are being met,” says Arvato Healthcare CEO Dr. Thorsten Winkelmann, highlighting the security aspect in the delivery of sensitive and expensive medicines. The Quality Assurance unit of Arvato Healthcare monitors compliance with quality requirements. All QA agreements are concluded between Therismos and Arvato directly. Customers face no additional efforts or expense.
“The contact between Arvato Healthcare and Therismos came about through existing customer networks in the field of quality assurance,” says Richard Davey, Managing Director at Therismos. “Shared views of quality and a focus on the customer form a good basis for our cooperation and provide the best possible prospects for mutual growth and the growth of our businesses,” says Davey in anticipation of the partnership.
